Well‐Type Steady Flow in Strongly Heterogeneous Porous Media: An Experimental Study

چکیده

Steady well-type flow was monitored in an aquifer that artificially packed order to reproduce a given, highly heterogeneous, statistical distribution of the log-conductivity Y. In particular, we focus on pumping tests carried out at 10 volumetric rates. The experimental arrangement composed by well and several surrounding observation piezometers. unique feature this study is high heterogeneity structure Y known fairly well. Thus, lends itself as valuable tool corroborate theoretical findings about flows driven sources through porous formations, where variance (in present equal 3.79) large. Besides discussing findings, tackle crucial issue upscaling hydraulic conductivity well-flow configuration. deal with equivalent (EC) pertaining homogeneous (fictitious) medium which conveys same rate real one, under boundary conditions. Hence, EC can be identified straightforwardly means head measurements. Even if show proper parameter measurements, it experimentally shown line results) position-dependent, therefore, cannot regarded (unlike groundwater-type flow) formation’s property. This implies applies only configuration stake. Then, EC, combined recent model effective well-flows heterogeneous formation, leads reasonably reliable estimate , some limitations approximations, notwithstanding. It hoped will useful for other researchers who are engaged similar research-topics.

An experimental study on hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flow in coarse-grained porous media

The equations of fluids in porous media are very useful in designing the rockfill and diversion dams, gabions, breakwaters and ground water reserves. Researches have been showed that the Forchheimer equation is not sufficient for the analysis of hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flows; because, in these flows, in addition to the hydraulic gradient and velocity, the variable of radius is...

Homogenization of strongly heterogeneous porous media

Resumé Homogenization techniques were developed to simplify description and modeling of heterogeneous structures where the characteristic size of the heterogeneities is much smaller than the size of the whole structure. Usually the simplification is associated with tractabil-ity of numerical modeling: " original structures " , like fiber composites, or masonry are constructed by repeating some ...

Transient Fluid Flow in Heterogeneous Porous Media

A stable Alternating Direction Implicit finite-difference algorithm is used to model transient fiuid flow in heterogeneous porous media. In connection with the laboratory system for pressure transient testing of core permeability, the effects of permeability heterogeneities on the characteristics of the pressure transient were investigated. The results show that the early portion of the pressur...

The effect of capillary forces on immiscible two-phase flow in strongly heterogeneous porous media

A selection of these reports is available in PostScript form at the Faculty's anonymous ftp-Abstract We consider the one-dimensional two-phase ow through a heterogeneous porous medium. The heterogeneity is due to the spatial variation of the absolute permeability and the porosity. Both these quantities are assumed to be piecewise constant. At interfaces where the rock properties are discontinuo...

Numerical Simulation of Three-Phase Flow in Heterogeneous Porous Media

We describe an efficient numerical simulator, based on an operator splitting technique, for three-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media that takes into account capillary forces, general relations for the relative permeability functions and variable porosity and permeability fields. Our numerical procedure combines a non-oscillatory, second order, conservative central difference scheme for th...
